Understanding NMN: the metabolic building block at a glance

NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) is one of the best-known ingredients in healthy aging. In this guide we put into context what NMN is and why it receives so much attention.

What is NMN?

NMN is a naturally occurring compound that plays a role in human metabolism and is also present in small amounts in various foods. As an endogenous substance, it is part of numerous biological processes.

Why is NMN researched?

Internationally, NMN is among the most intensively studied ingredients in longevity. Scientific interest has increased significantly in recent years. Many health-conscious people include NMN as part of an active lifestyle.

What to look for with NMN?

A clear dose per daily portion, high-quality raw materials and transparent information are key. Look for clear information on purity and composition.

NMN at Lyvity

Our Lyvity NMN 1000 Pro provides 1000 mg of NMN per daily portion (2 × 500 mg) in a pure formula with a plant-based HPMC capsule. Details and directions are on the product page.

What does the research say?

NMN is a direct precursor of NAD+, a central coenzyme of energy metabolism whose levels naturally decline with age. In a randomised, placebo-controlled study in healthy adults (up to 900 mg/day over 60 days), blood NAD+ rose dose-dependently, accompanied by improvements in physical performance and good tolerability (Yi et al., 2023).

Systematic reviews confirm that NMN effectively raises NAD+, with a favourable safety profile. Research continues to evolve, and in regulatory terms the US FDA confirmed in 2025 that NMN is lawful as a dietary-supplement ingredient.
