Fisetin is one of the most-discussed ingredients in healthy aging and longevity. In this guide we explain what fisetin is, where it occurs naturally and why it's increasingly in the research spotlight.
What is fisetin?
Fisetin belongs to the flavonoids – natural plant compounds that give many fruits and vegetables their colour. It occurs naturally in strawberries, apples and persimmons, among others, but only in relatively small amounts.
Why is fisetin in focus?
In recent years fisetin has attracted the interest of researchers worldwide. It is now studied intensively and is among the best-known flavonoids in the context of healthy aging. Many health-conscious people include fisetin as part of an overall strategy of balanced nutrition, exercise, sleep and recovery.
Fisetin in everyday life
Because the amounts obtained through diet are small, many choose targeted supplementation in capsule form. A well-thought-out formulation and transparent information on ingredients and amounts are important here.
Fisetin at Lyvity
Our Lyvity Fisetin Pro is a thoughtfully designed fisetin complex: it combines fisetin from smoke tree extract with turmeric (curcumins), quercetin, konjac glucomannan and BioPerine®. The full ingredient list and nutrition values are on the product page.
What does the research say?
Fisetin is a flavonoid that is studied intensively in aging research. In preclinical studies it has been described as a «senotherapeutic»: in mouse models it reduced the number of senescent («aging») cells and improved various age-related markers (Yousefzadeh et al., 2018).
First clinical studies in humans are underway, including the AFFIRM-LITE trial at the renowned Mayo Clinic. Fisetin is thus among the actively researched longevity ingredients – an exciting field that continues to evolve scientifically.
