Trans-resveratrol belongs to the large family of polyphenols. In this guide we explain what polyphenols are, what makes trans-resveratrol special and why it is often combined with other plant compounds.
What are polyphenols?
Polyphenols are natural plant compounds found in many fruits, vegetables and plants. They often give plants their colour and are among the most-studied ingredients in wellness and healthy aging.
What is trans-resveratrol?
Trans-resveratrol is a polyphenol produced by certain plants and found, among others, in red grapes. It is one of the best-known representatives of this group in the longevity field.
Why is trans-resveratrol combined?
In high-quality formulations trans-resveratrol is often combined with other polyphenols such as green tea extract and quercetin, as well as BioPerine® (black pepper) – a common approach in the industry for well-designed polyphenol formulas.
Trans-resveratrol at Lyvity
Our Lyvity Trans-Resveratrol Complex combines trans-resveratrol with green tea polyphenols, quercetin and BioPerine®. Please note the information about the green tea extract on the product page.
What does the research say?
Trans-resveratrol is a stilbene-class polyphenol. A review of 112 human intervention studies describes it as largely well tolerated, with partly positive effects on cardiometabolic markers (Ramírez-Garza et al., 2018). Meta-analyses in metabolic syndrome also report reductions in inflammatory markers such as CRP and TNF-α.
One important aspect is bioavailability: pure resveratrol is metabolised quickly by the body. That is exactly why high-quality formulations – like our Trans-Resveratrol Complex – rely on thoughtful combinations with other polyphenols (e.g. green tea, quercetin) and BioPerine® (piperine from black pepper). Polyphenol research continues to evolve.
